Dimensional Weight Replaces Oversize in for UPS in 2007

Oversize charges for larger packages shipped via UPS Ground services will be replaced with a simpler rate calculation based on dimensional weight.
Best Way Technologies’ ProShip Unified Shipping Software will support this change immediately when it takes effect on January 1, 2007.Demensional weight will only apply to UPS Ground packages measuring three cubic feet (5,184 cubic inches) or larger. Packages measuring less than three cubic feet will continue to be billed based on actual weight. As a result of this change, dimensional weight charges will gradually increase as the package size increases, eliminating significant steps from one Oversize tier to the next.
EBay Shippers Generated $1 billion in USPS postage
November 7th, 2006 | Posted in IndustryUnited States Postmaster General John Potter says eBay shippers have generated more than $1 billion of postage since the two started working closely together more than two years ago.
USPS provides priority mail flat-rate boxes, as well as a “shoe box” it launched this year in response to demand by eBay sellers. The box comes with an eBay and USPS logo.
Priority mail revenue alone was up 9.2 percent in the first nine months of the fiscal year ended Sept. 30.
UPS to Offer New International Delivery Options

UPS said it will begin offering three, rather than one or two, daily time-definite delivery options to and from certain global markets.
UPS said it will now offer 9 a.m. delivery guarantees from U.S. points to 30 countries instead of 23. The new countries are Australia, China, India, Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Indonesia.
FedEx Switches Plane Order to Boeing from Airbus; UPS Also Considering Canceling Its Airbus Purchase

Instead, FedEx ordered 15 Boeing 777 Freighter aircraft and took options to purchase 15 more.
FedEx said it expects to take delivery of four Boeing 777s in 2009, eight in 2010 and the remainder in 2011. At a list price of $232.5 million to $240 million each, the order will be worth at least $3.48 billion to Boeing.

Like the nearby Poland Spring and FedEx drivers, Merilus doesn’t have a choice. There are no legal spaces, and he has a demanding schedule to keep, delivering hundreds of packages to corporations such as Goldman Sachs and Citibank.
Then the inevitable comes wrapped in a blaze-orange envelope: Merilus gets a $115 parking ticket, one of four he receives this day.
“It’s automatic,” said Merilus, 34. “There is not a single day I don’t get a summons.”
FedEx completes Watkins Purchase

UPS Plans $1 Billion Expansion of Louisville facility; Anticipating Strong Growth in Global Commerce

The company said the $1 billion expansion will create 5,000 jobs. The hub’s sorting capacity will grow by 60% in the next five years and be able to handle 487,000 packages per hour.
DC-CAFTA Free Trade Agreement Expected To Boost Exports; Textiles, Clothing and Processed Crops Seen as Receiving The Most Benefit

The U.S. International Trade Commission has previously estimated a 12.5 percent increase after the Dominican Republic-Central American Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA) is fully implemented, as reported in the Latin Business Chronicle.
